Set within the Bojanala Region of South Africa’s North West Province, Pilanesberg National Park stands as the country’s fourth largest game reserve. What makes this park truly unique is its location inside the remnants of an ancient, long-extinct volcanic crater—creating a setting as dramatic as it is beautiful.

Spanning approximately 55,000 hectares, the park is home to over 7,000 animals living freely in their natural habitat. Pilanesberg is one of the best places in the country to see the famed Big Five—lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo—along with a wide range of other wildlife such as giraffes, zebras, cheetahs, hyenas, hippos, crocodiles, jackals, wild cats, and various species of antelope. Bird enthusiasts will also be thrilled by the presence of more than 300 recorded bird species.

With over 200 kilometers of roads, the park offers exceptional opportunities for both guided and self-drive safaris. During your tour, you’ll join an expert guide on a thrilling and educational game drive, where you’ll learn about the park’s diverse animal life and unique ecosystem. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a returning enthusiast, the experience promises unforgettable moments.

Be sure to bring your camera—there will be no shortage of picture-perfect scenes as you encounter animals against the backdrop of Pilanesberg’s rugged terrain. After a day filled with adventure and discovery, we make our way back to Johannesburg in the late afternoon, full of stories and memories to share.
